A school project we realized in group during the information architecture course. We’ve been tasked for creating a responsive website for Vannes to participate in the competition of “Green European capital”. The challenge we were confronting was not only to find a creative concept, but also to make the website more accessible by respecting the information architecture and the contraste.
We chose two mains colours: green and dark blue. Green to represent the nature and the blue is associate with Gulf of Morbihan. All the colours are verified with a strong contraste.
After making several research of Vannes, the idea of the logo came quickly into our mind: we wanted to illustrate a sailboat with its inflated sail to represent both hope and the future. The shape of the sail “V” reflect also Vannes, a city with a port, situates in a region where sailing is widely practiced. Moreover, sailboat is a green transport, therefore respect the enviroment while showing its values.
The font we chose was “Poppins”, a typograpghy slightly rounded and very easy to read. We documented it with differents use: Mobile and Desktop.
We made a guide line which contains the UI kit, behavior and scale rules to define all the components that we used in this project, the icons, the different state of boutons, the illustration... It facilited the communication between the designers and brought the consistence to the user interface.
We intended to put a map on the home page, where people can visit the city and its enviromental avances by simply clicking on the pictogrammes. In our opinion, the map brings a more playful way to discover all its important subjects. Moreover, it seemed more relevant for us to classify the subjects by themes.
I learnt to be more sensible to the details from this project, and to take the choice cautiously. A user-friendly design can make more people’s life easier, such as for colour blinds or dyslexic people.
